The Gospels Set 9 Study Resources
Companion study notes, commentary, and next-step resources for this set of readings from The Gospels Discipleship Journal.
This Set’s Big Idea
Jesus teaches that God’s kingdom is priceless, growing, and certain, while revealing His authority over sickness, storms, demons, death, and despair.
As you read, watch how Jesus describes the hidden and priceless value of the kingdom, confronts unbelief, calms the storm, delivers the oppressed, heals the suffering, and raises the dead.
These notes correspond with Set 9 readings in The Gospels Discipleship Journal. First, use MTSM’s Pray, Read, Ask, and Pray method to study the passage devotionally. After you finish, use these notes to deepen your understanding if you’d like.
This set continues Jesus’ teaching about the kingdom of God. Through parables, Jesus shows that the kingdom may begin quietly, appear hidden, and grow over time, but its value is greater than anything else. He teaches about light, growth, wheat and weeds, mustard seed, leaven, hidden treasure, and a pearl of great price.
As you read Mark 4–5 and Matthew 8 and 13, pay attention to both Jesus’ teaching and His authority. The same Jesus who teaches about the kingdom also rules over creation, evil, sickness, suffering, and death. These passages invite us to treasure the kingdom, trust the King, and respond to Him with faith rather than fear or unbelief.
