The Gospels Set 10 Study Resources

The Gospels Set 10 Study Resources

Companion study notes, commentary, and next-step resources for this set of readings from The Gospels Discipleship Journal.

This Set’s Big Idea

Jesus sends His disciples on mission, prepares them for opposition, provides for the crowds, and reveals His authority over fear, need, and the storm.

As you read, watch how Jesus sees the crowds with compassion, sends His disciples to proclaim the kingdom, warns them about persecution, grieves the death of John, feeds the hungry, and calls Peter to trust Him on the water.

These notes correspond with Set 10 readings in The Gospels Discipleship Journal. First, use MTSM’s Pray, Read, Ask, and Pray method to study the passage devotionally. After you finish, use these notes to deepen your understanding if you’d like.

This set highlights the mission and cost of following Jesus. In Matthew 9–10, Jesus sees the crowds as harassed and helpless, calls His disciples to pray for workers, and then sends the Twelve to proclaim the kingdom. He prepares them for both fruitful ministry and real opposition, reminding them to fear God more than people and to remain faithful.

As you read Matthew 14, pay attention to Jesus’ compassion and authority. Herod’s rejection of God’s messenger shows the cost of faithfulness, while Jesus’ feeding of the five thousand reveals His provision for needy people. When the disciples face the storm, Jesus comes to them, calls them to courage, and shows that He is worthy of worship. These passages invite us to join Jesus’ mission, trust His provision, and follow Him faithfully even when obedience is costly.
