The Gospels Set 4 Study Resources

The Gospels Set 4 Study Resources

Companion study notes, commentary, and next-step resources for this set of readings from The Gospels Discipleship Journal.

This Set’s Big Idea

Jesus reveals His glory, confronts empty religion, offers new birth, welcomes outsiders, and calls people to believe in Him for eternal life.

As you read, watch how Jesus turns water into wine, cleanses the temple, teaches Nicodemus about being born again, offers living water to the Samaritan woman, and calls people to trust His word.

These notes correspond with Set 4 readings in The Gospels Discipleship Journal. First, use MTSM’s Pray, Read, Ask, and Pray method to study the passage devotionally. After you finish, use these notes to deepen your understanding if you’d like.

This set shows Jesus revealing who He is through signs, conversations, and confrontations. At Cana, He reveals His glory and His disciples believe in Him. In the temple, He confronts religious corruption and points ahead to His death and resurrection. With Nicodemus, He explains the need for new birth. With the Samaritan woman, He offers living water and welcomes an outsider into true worship. In Galilee, He heals an official’s son and calls people to trust His word.

As you read John 2–4, pay attention to how different people respond to Jesus. Some believe because of signs. Some are confused by His teaching. Some resist His authority. Others discover that He is the Savior of the world. These chapters invite us to move beyond curiosity and religious activity into genuine faith, spiritual renewal, and worship in spirit and truth.
