The Gospels Set 5 Study Resources

The Gospels Set 5 Study Resources

Companion study notes, commentary, and next-step resources for this set of readings from The Gospels Discipleship Journal.

This Set’s Big Idea

Jesus announces the kingdom, teaches with authority, heals the broken, forgives sin, and calls unlikely people to follow Him.

As you read, watch how Jesus proclaims the good news of God’s kingdom, demonstrates His authority through teaching and miracles, forgives sin, and welcomes people others often overlooked or rejected.

These notes correspond with Set 5 readings in The Gospels Discipleship Journal. First, use MTSM’s Pray, Read, Ask, and Pray method to study the passage devotionally. After you finish, use these notes to deepen your understanding if you’d like.

This set highlights both the authority and compassion of Jesus. He announces that the kingdom of God has arrived and calls people to repent and believe the good news. His authority is seen not only in His teaching, but also in His power over demons, sickness, uncleanness, and even sin itself. Wherever Jesus goes, lives are transformed.

As you read Mark 1–2 and John 5, pay attention to the different ways people respond to Jesus. Some are amazed by His authority. Some desperately seek His help. Some criticize Him for showing mercy to sinners. Others place their faith in Him. These passages remind us that Jesus came not merely to improve lives, but to forgive sin, restore the broken, and call people into His kingdom.
