This set brings us into the final hours Jesus shares with His disciples before the cross. In Luke 22, Jesus deliberately prepares for the Passover meal even as Judas moves toward betrayal. At the table, Jesus takes the bread and cup and gives them new meaning, pointing His disciples toward the sacrifice He is about to make for them.

In John 13, Jesus kneels to wash the feet of men who will soon abandon, deny, and betray Him. His humble service reveals the shape of kingdom love. Jesus does not merely command His disciples to serve; He gives them an example to follow. His love moves downward, toward weakness, need, and undeserving people.

As you read Matthew 26 and John 14, pay attention to the tenderness and strength of Jesus. He warns Peter honestly, yet He does not abandon him. He tells His disciples not to let their hearts be troubled, promises to prepare a place for them, and declares that He alone is the way, the truth, and the life. He also promises the Holy Spirit, who will teach, remind, comfort, and remain with His followers.

These passages invite us to receive Christ’s sacrifice, follow His example of humble service, trust Him when our hearts are troubled, depend on the Holy Spirit, and rest in the peace Jesus gives.
