The Gospels Set 13 Study Resources
Companion study notes, commentary, and next-step resources for this set of readings from The Gospels Discipleship Journal.
This Set’s Big Idea
Jesus reveals Himself as the One sent from the Father, the light of the world, the great “I AM,” and the merciful Savior who calls people to truth, freedom, and neighbor-love.
As you read, watch how people debate, misunderstand, reject, or believe Jesus, and how He exposes false judgment, offers living water and light, speaks the truth that sets people free, and shows that true love moves toward the hurting.
These notes correspond with Set 13 readings in The Gospels Discipleship Journal. First, use MTSM’s Pray, Read, Ask, and Pray method to study the passage devotionally. After you finish, use these notes to deepen your understanding if you’d like.
This set centers on growing conflict around Jesus’ identity and mission. In John 7–8, Jesus teaches during the Feast of Booths, calls the thirsty to come to Him, declares Himself the light of the world, confronts religious pride, and reveals His eternal identity. In Luke 10, Jesus teaches that love for God must be seen in mercy toward our neighbor. As you read, pay attention to how Jesus calls people out of darkness, religious pretense, and self-justification into truth, freedom, mercy, and life.
