This devotion is based on the sermon: Pop Crazy or Kingdom Crazy
Devotional
R.G. LeTourneau was a successful Christian industrialist in the early 20th century, known for inventing massive earth-moving machines. As his business flourished, he made a radical decision—not to give 10% to God, but to live on 10% and give away 90%. He once said, “I shovel out the money, and God shovels it back—but God has a bigger shovel.”
What’s remarkable is that LeTourneau didn’t see giving as an obligation. He saw it as a joyful response to God’s ownership of everything he had. He enjoyed God’s blessings, ran a thriving business, and used his resources to fund missionary work, build schools, and support the kingdom—all with a deep sense of purpose.
R.G. LeTourneau’s life illustrates a truth that reshapes how we view our possessions: when we understand that all we have comes from and belongs to God, stewardship becomes a joy, not a duty. It allows us to enjoy His gifts while using them to serve a greater, eternal purpose – expanding His Kingdom.
Bible Verse
“Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. 18 Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. 19 By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.” – 1 Timothy 6:17-19
Reflection Question
How can you better balance enjoying God’s gifts while using them to advance His kingdom purposes?
Quote
I think that when we enjoy the things that God has given us, it’s an act of worship to the giver of good things. But are we also leveraging those for His kingdom?
Prayer
Father, thank You for all You’ve given me. Help me be a good steward who both enjoys Your gifts and uses them to bless others and advance Your kingdom. Amen.
