5.16.25 – Mother’s Day Continued, Leaving a Living Legacy

This devotion is based on the sermon: How to honor the mothers in our lives in ways God desires

Pastor’s Sermon Notes

Devotional

In a heartfelt tribute, Pastor Tony Evans shared the profound impact of his mother, Lois Evans, on his life and ministry. He recounted how her unwavering faith, compassionate heart, and dedication to family traditions left an indelible mark on him and countless others she touched. Her legacy wasn’t just in the lessons she taught but in her life—a life that exemplified love, faith, and resilience. She instilled values that continue to influence generations through her actions and attitudes.

Just as mothers can create a lasting legacy, their husbands and children honoring them can also create a lasting legacy. Honoring mothers today impacts future generations. When we consistently demonstrate honor to the mothers in our lives through our actions and attitudes, we teach valuable lessons about respect, love, and godly character. This living example speaks louder than any verbal instruction. Whether you’re a parent or not, your way of honoring mother figures influences those around you and helps establish patterns that can positively impact families for generations to come.

Bible Verse

“These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” – Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Reflection Question

  • What kind of legacy of honoring mother figures are you leaving?
  • What legacy of honoring mother figures do you want to leave for the next generation?
  • What, if any, changes do you need to make to leave a godly legacy of honoring mothers to the next generation?

Quote

Learning is caught, not taught. When it comes to discipling our kids, the old saying, “Do as I say and not as I do,” will not work.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me create a legacy of honor that points others to You. Use my example to inspire future generations to honor mother figures in ways that please You. Amen.
