5.1.25 – Prayer’s Role in Healing Relationships

This devotion is based on the sermon: The Dangers of Anger

Pastor’s Sermon Notes

Devotional

Reconciliation isn’t just about ending conflict – it’s about restoring relationships. This is what God has done for us in Christ: through His life and death, Jesus appeased God’s wrath towards us for our sins, ending the conflict between those who believe in Jesus and God Himself. However, this work of God reconciling us to Himself through His Son didn’t just end with a peace treaty but a restored relationship with Him!

When it comes to mirroring the reconciliation that God has made possible in our relationship with Him in our relationships with others, humility, gentleness, and sincere effort are essential – from ourselves and the other person involved. While we can’t control how others respond, we can control our approach. Sometimes, the first step is simply praying for those who have hurt us, allowing God to soften our hearts before we attempt reconciliation.

Bible Verse

Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. (Romans 12:18, NLT)

Reflection Question

Will you take the first step towards reconciling with someone today by praying for God to perform the needed work on your heart for reconciliation with that person to be attempted?

Quote

“The goal of prayer is not to change God’s mind, but to change our hearts. Prayer can bring about reconciliation when we approach God in humility, seeking healing for our relationships.” – Tim Keller

Prayer

God, grant me the humility and gentleness needed for reconciliation. Help me follow Your example of extending grace to others. Amen.
