This devotion is based on the sermon: What are we to do with the Old Testament? (Pt 2)
Devotional
Think about trying to clean a deeply stained carpet with just water – it might help temporarily, but it doesn’t solve the underlying problem. The Old Testament sacrificial system was similar. While it provided temporary covering for sin, it couldn’t permanently solve our sin problem. This is why Jesus’ sacrifice was so revolutionary. Unlike the repeated sacrifices of animals, His one-time offering perfectly addressed our sin problem forever. He didn’t just cover our sins; He removed them completely. This incredible truth means we can live in freedom, knowing our relationship with God is secure.
Bible Verse
“But our high priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand.” – Hebrews 10:12
Reflection Question
How does understanding the completeness of Christ’s sacrifice impact your daily walk with God and your approach to dealing with guilt?
Prayer
Jesus, thank you for your perfect, complete sacrifice. Help us live in the freedom and confidence that comes from knowing our sins are fully dealt with through Your work on the cross. Amen.
