Scripture Reading
John 9:35-38
Devotional
In John 9, we encounter a man born blind whose life is transformed by Jesus. The disciples ask if his blindness is due to sin, but Jesus explains that it is so the works of God might be displayed in him. This man’s physical blindness becomes a metaphor for spiritual blindness. Jesus opened his eyes, giving him physical sight but an even greater demonstration of His love and grace was when Jesus found him after he had been let down by his parents and expelled from the synagogue and gave him the ability to see Jesus for who He really was and is, the Son of Man (Daniel 7:13-14; 9:35, 37)and not just a mere man (9:11, 16, 24).
Once the now-seeing man understood who Jesus was, he worshiped him truly. When we see Jesus for who He truly is, our worship becomes sincere and deep; we can worship Him in spirit (with our emotions, entire beings) and in truth (who He is as He has revealed Himself). As you read the Scripture this week, ask yourself, what does this passage teach me about Jesus? Spend time reflecting on He has revealed Himself to you during your time in the Bible, allowing your conclusions to mold and fuel your worship of Him like this man in John 9.
We clearly see Jesus for Who He is when we read and accept how Scripture has clearly revealed Jesus to us!
Reflection Question
How has Jesus revealed Himself to you in your life through the Scriptures, and how has that deepened your worship?
Quote from Sermon
“We cannot worship Jesus sincerely and truthfully until we clearly see who he is.”
Prayer
Lord, open the eyes of my heart. Help me to see You clearly and to worship You sincerely. Reveal more of Yourself to me each day. Amen.
