Aligning Our Desires with God’s Will

Devotional

Psalm 20:4 is often misinterpreted as a promise that God will fulfill all our desires and plans. However, the true context of this verse is a prayer for King David’s victory, reflecting the desires of a nation, not an individual. To understand Scripture correctly, we must practice exegesis, considering the context and the author’s intent. When we delight in the Lord, our desires align with His, leading to the true fulfillment of our heart’s desires. By committing to study the Word deeply and trusting in God’s goodness, we can ensure that our lives are in line with His will, and that our desires are those that bring glory to Him.

Bible Verse

May he grant your heart’s desires and make all of your plans succeed. – Psalm 20:4

Reflection Question

How can you ensure that your desires align with God’s will?

Quote from Sermon

“As we delight in the Lord, our desires become what he desires, and those desires are things that He’ll grant.”

Prayer

Lord, help me to delight in You above all else. Align my desires with Yours and guide me to live a life that brings glory to Your name. Amen.
