It might be my inner child’s refusal to let go of wonder, but I can’t help hoping that I’ll see dinosaurs in the eternal heaven. As a kid, dinosaurs captivated me, and to be honest, I’m still awestruck by them today. These bigger-than-life reptiles ignite my imagination every time I visit a museum or special exhibit.
That raises the question many people—especially kids and childlike adults—often ask:
Will dinosaurs and other extinct animals live on the New Earth?
While only God knows with certainty, the Bible gives us enough information to form a thoughtful, hopeful conclusion.
Extinct Creatures and God’s “Very Good” Creation
Let’s start with what we do know from Scripture.
Were dinosaurs part of God’s original creation? Yes.
Did God consider them “very good”? Yes.
Will God’s restoring, redeeming work be complete enough to reverse everything the curse destroyed—including extinction? I believe the Bible points strongly in that direction.
Will God actually resurrect extinct animals? I can’t say with certainty. But I do believe God’s restoration of creation will be so complete, so overwhelming, that it will display the fullness of His victory over sin and death.
Sin’s curse touched every part of creation. And extinction is one of sin’s tragic effects.
But Scripture promises something breathtaking:
“No longer will there be any curse.”
— Revelation 22:3
The New Earth will be a world entirely free from sin and all its consequences.
That alone makes it very possible that God will restore animals we no longer see today.
It’s even possible that God may introduce entirely new creatures in His renewed world.
Creation Reveals God’s Power—Will the New Earth Reveal Even More?
Romans 1:20 tells us that God’s invisible attributes are clearly displayed in what He has made. And honestly, what better display of God’s creative power exists than the incredible creatures we call dinosaurs?
Even God Himself used two mighty creatures—Behemoth and Leviathan—as living illustrations of His greatness when speaking to Job (Job 40–41). Before dismissing these as mythical, we should remember that everything else God described to Job in that conversation was a real animal Job already knew.
If God’s people throughout history were privileged to enjoy animals that went extinct long before we were born, why assume God will withhold those creatures from us in His restored world?
Especially when Scripture says the curse will be utterly removed?
A Personal Picture of Hope
A few years ago, my family visited a traveling dinosaur exhibit. The life-sized models were stunning. Standing in front of a towering Spinosaurus made us feel impossibly small. The kids rode a mechanical Triceratops and laughed through a fun live show.
I can’t help imagining what it would be like to ride a real Triceratops with my believing children on the New Earth. Even as I write that, I smile and chuckle.
It would be like Jurassic Park—except without the violence, fear, or hostility—just joy, wonder, and worship.
Animals Lead Us to Worship—And They Will Again
Even now, seeing magnificent creatures—whales, sharks, lions, tigers, giraffes—pulls worship out of us. Their beauty and power direct our awe toward their Creator.
It’s hard to imagine that the restored world, untouched by death or decay, filled with life as God intended, would do anything less.
Whether God restores the dinosaurs or surprises us with creatures beyond anything we’ve known, one thing is sure: The New Earth will lead us to worship our Creator King.
Creation will once again shout the glory of its Maker.
Every creature—from the smallest to the most magnificent—will help us delight in Him forever.
