The Gospels Study Notes for Set 15 of Readings

The Gospels Set 15 Study Resources

Companion study notes, commentary, and next-step resources for this set of readings from The Gospels Discipleship Journal.

This Set’s Big Idea

Jesus opens blind eyes, reveals Himself as the Good Shepherd, invites the rejected into His care, and calls all who follow Him to count the cost of discipleship.

As you read, watch how Jesus heals a man born blind, exposes spiritual blindness, identifies Himself as the door and the Good Shepherd, extends grace to the humble and rejected, and teaches that following Him requires wholehearted surrender.

These notes correspond with Set 15 readings in The Gospels Discipleship Journal. First, use MTSM’s Pray, Read, Ask, and Pray method to study the passage devotionally. After you finish, use these notes to deepen your understanding if you’d like.

This set highlights both the mercy and authority of Jesus. In John 9, Jesus gives sight to a man born blind while exposing the spiritual blindness of those who refuse to believe. In John 10, Jesus reveals Himself as the door of the sheep and the Good Shepherd who knows His sheep, lays down His life for them, and gives them eternal life.

As you read John 9–10 and Luke 14, pay attention to how people respond to Jesus. Some reject Him while claiming to see clearly. Others hear His voice and follow Him. Jesus also teaches that the kingdom welcomes the humble, the needy, and the overlooked, while true disciples must count the cost and surrender everything to Him. These passages invite us to listen to the Shepherd’s voice, receive His grace, and follow Him with undivided allegiance.
