6.25.25 – Prayer, not Performance

This devotion is based on the sermon: Not for Likes

Devotional

Prayer isn’t a performance art – it’s an intimate conversation with our loving Father. When we pray, we’re not trying to impress others with eloquent words or lengthy petitions. Instead, we’re entering into a private dialogue with God who already knows our needs before we express them. This intimate approach to prayer transforms it from a religious duty into a relationship-building encounter. When we close our door and pray in secret, we create space for authentic communion with God, free from the distractions of others’ opinions.

Bible Verse

“When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get.” – Matthew 6:5

Reflection Question

How might your prayer life change if you approached it as a child speaking to a loving parent rather than as a performance for others?

Prayer

Dear Father, help me to pray with sincerity and simplicity, focusing on our relationship rather than others’ impressions. Amen.
