Devotional

There’s a beautiful story about a handshake deal between two business giants—Coca-Cola and Candler. Without elaborate contracts or legal teams, they sealed a major business arrangement with just their word. When asked if he worried about betrayal or stolen formulas, Mr. Cassie replied, “Listen, a contract is only as good as a man’s word.”

This story illustrates what Jesus was teaching about integrity. In a world of fine print and legal loopholes, the value of a person whose word can be trusted is immeasurable. When we speak honestly and follow through on our commitments, we’re not just making life easier for those around us—we’re reflecting the character of God Himself.

God is described throughout Scripture as faithful and true. He keeps His promises. He doesn’t mislead or manipulate. When we speak with integrity, we’re showing the world what God is like. Our truthfulness becomes a living testimony to His character. This doesn’t mean being brutally honest without love or tact. Speaking truth in love means being honest, kind, straightforward, and sensitive. It means considering how our words will impact others while remaining committed to truthfulness. Today, consider how your words might be shaping others’ understanding of God. When people interact with you, do they encounter someone whose word is reliable? Do they see a reflection of the God who cannot lie in your speech?

Bible Verse

“Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.” – Psalm 51:6

Reflection Question

How might your commitment to truthful speech be shaping others’ perception of God, and what one change could you make to reflect His faithful character through your words better?

Quote

“That should be how people look at our words and our speech, every single word, and say, that’s a man or a woman who is trustworthy. That is a man or a woman who will do what they said they would do. And if that can be said of us, then be sure of this. We are reflecting God’s character accurately to a world and those around us.”

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being completely trustworthy and true. Help me to reflect Your character through my words so that others might see You more clearly through my life. Give me the wisdom to speak the truth with love and to be someone whose word can be trusted completely. May my speech honor You in every way. Amen.
