Devotion

Imagine getting ready for an important day. You step in front of the mirror, but it’s cracked. In some sections, your reflection looks perfect. In others, it’s distorted—your face stretched, your smile uneven. You try to adjust your position, but no matter how you stand, you can’t get a clear, honest picture.

Our integrity works the same way. When we are truthful in one area of life but deceptive in another, our character becomes like that cracked mirror. Some parts may reflect Christ well, while others distort His image through us. We may be truthful at church, but if we’re dishonest at work or deceptive with our family, our character reflects a blurred and cracked representation of our Lord. But Jesus calls us to be whole, undivided people—honest and dependable in every setting, so the world sees a true reflection of Him in us.

Integrity isn’t something we can compartmentalize. We can’t be honest in church but deceptive at work, truthful with friends but manipulative with family. Jesus calls us to consistency in every area of life. Think about the roles you play each day—professional, parent, friend, student, or neighbor. In all these contexts, your words matter. Promises to your children are as important as the contracts you sign at work. What you post online reflects your character just as much as what you say in church. Jesus teaches that our integrity should be so steady that we don’t need extra assurances to be believed. When we say, “I promise” or “I swear,” it suggests our normal words aren’t enough. But as Christ’s followers, every word should carry the weight of truth. This doesn’t mean we’ll never fail—we’re human. What matters is that we speak with honest intent and humbly seek forgiveness when we fall short.

Bible Verse

Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. – Colossians 3:9

Reflection Question

In which areas of your life (work, family, social media, etc.) do you find it most challenging to maintain complete truthfulness, and what specific steps could you take to strengthen your integrity in those areas?

Quote

“The true Christian ideal is not to be happy but to be holy. The holy man is the man who is wholly consistent—what he is in the dark is what he is in the light.” – A.W. Tozer

Prayer

Lord, help me to be consistent in my integrity across every area of my life. Please show me where I’ve compartmentalized my honesty, being truthful in some contexts but not in others. Give me the courage to speak with honesty in every situation, whether comfortable or uncomfortable. May my words always reflect Your character of truth. Amen.
