5.6.25 – Perspective Matters in Matters of Purity

This devotion is based on the sermon: The Dangers of Lust

Pastor’s Sermon Notes

Devotional

Have you ever seen one of those optical illusion paintings—like the famous image that looks like either a young woman or an old lady, depending on how you look at it? The image itself doesn’t change, but your perspective does. And with just a shift in how you view it, what you once saw as ordinary or even unattractive suddenly reveals something striking and beautiful. People are like that. Every person we encounter is a masterpiece created by God, bearing His divine image.

Every person we encounter is a masterpiece created by God, bearing His divine image. When we view others through a lens of lust or selfish desire, we diminish their God-given dignity and worth. Instead, we’re called to see people as Christ sees them – precious souls worth dying for. This perspective transformation doesn’t happen overnight, but it begins with recognizing the sacred value of every human being and choosing to honor that truth in our thoughts and actions.

Bible Verse

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” – Philippians 2:3-4

Reflection Question

How might your interactions with others change if you consistently viewed them as image-bearers of God rather than objects for personal gratification?

Quote

Participating in this behavior causes us to see people in a way that they should not be seen. They become objects to be used instead of people made in the image of God, whom he loved and whom Christ died for.

Prayer

Lord, help me see others as You see them. Transform my perspective to recognize and honor Your image in every person I encounter. Create in me a pure heart that reflects Your love. Amen.
