This devotion is based on the sermon: The Dangers of Anger
Devotional
Have you ever watched a tiny spark grow into something much bigger? My family and I enjoy spending time around our fire pit. It’s fascinating how something so small, like a flame beginning on a dryer lint, can create a hotdog-roasting blaze. The same is true with anger in our hearts. What starts as a minor irritation can quickly grow into a consuming rage if we’re not careful. Anger itself isn’t inherently wrong – even Jesus displayed righteous anger when confronting injustice. However, most of our anger stems from hurt, pride, or a desire for revenge. Like a wildfire that starts with a single spark, unchecked anger can rapidly spread, damaging our relationships and spiritual life.
Bible
“In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.” – Ephesians 4:26
Quote
“Unchecked anger is the catalyst for every form of hatred and violence known to man. It is a fire that must be quenched by the grace of God.” – R.C. Sproul
Reflection Question
Think about a recent situation that made you angry. Was your response more like Jesus’s righteous anger, or was it fueled by pride or hurt?
Prayer
Father, help me recognize the early signs of anger in my heart. Give me the wisdom to distinguish between righteous and unrighteous anger and the strength to respond in ways that honor You. Amen.
