This devotion is based on the sermon: What are we to do with the Old Testament? (Pt 2)
Devotional
Have you ever started a project but couldn’t quite finish it? Maybe it was a home renovation, a New Year’s resolution, or a personal goal. No matter how determined we are, we often fall short of our intentions. But there’s someone who never falls short – Jesus Christ. He came with a specific mission and fulfilled it perfectly. Unlike our incomplete attempts, Jesus fulfilled every single requirement of God’s law – all 613 commands! He didn’t come to eliminate or ignore the law, but to fulfill it in ways we never could. This truth brings both comfort and conviction. Comfort because we don’t have to achieve perfection on our own, and conviction because it shows us how much we need Him.
Bible Verse
“Do not misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets.” – Matthew 5:17
Reflection Question
How does knowing that Jesus perfectly fulfilled God’s law change your perspective on your own struggles with perfectionism and falling short?
Quote
“He kept the law perfectly, outwardly and inwardly.”
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for perfectly fulfilling what we could not. Help us rest in Your completed work while still striving to honor You with our lives. Give us the grace to accept our imperfections while trusting in Your perfection. Amen.
