Devotional
Daniel and his friends demonstrated a unique approach to resistance. They did not rebel aggressively but chose a path of respectful resistance. By politely requesting not to defile themselves with the king’s food, they showed that it is possible to stand firm in one’s beliefs while still respecting authority. This respectful approach earned them favor and wisdom from God. In our interactions, especially with those in authority, let’s strive to be respectful while holding true to our convictions.
Bible Verse
Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. – Romans 13:1
Reflection Questions
How can you practice respectful resistance in your daily life, especially when your beliefs are challenged?
How can you respectfully engage in politics with others and disagree with politicians respectfully? Has this been your practice? Is there any relationship that needs to be restored with another brother or sister in Christ because of an unhealthy handling of differing political views? Is there any post, comment, bumper sticker, flag, that is disrespectful to any in authority that needs to be removed? Any other sin to confess in this area?
QuoteÂ
Being a good Christian means being a good citizen in the nation in which God has put you, unless being a good citizen causes you to be a bad Christian.
PrayerÂ
God, grant me the wisdom to stand firm in my beliefs while showing respect to those around me. Help me to navigate challenges with grace and integrity. Amen.
