The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task.

Quick Overview
Aspire is a pastoral formation pathway at Cornerstone designed to help men:
- Follow Jesus deeply
- Discern God’s calling clearly
- Grow in spiritual, relational, emotional health
- Develop shepherding character
- Lead others to follow Christ
Aspire is not a leadership fast track. It is a season of discernment, formation, and faithful obedience.
Simple Explanation
At Cornerstone, we believe leadership should be formed slowly, confirmed biblically, guarded relationally, and tested through fruit.
Aspire exists to raise up men who are:
- Faithful before fruitful
- Shepherds before speakers
- Disciple-makers before platform leaders
The goal of Aspire is not to produce pastors. The goal is to produce faithful followers of Jesus who make disciples. Some men may pursue pastoral ministry. Others may discover a different calling. Both outcomes are faithful.
The Aspire Pathway
Aspire is a pathway (formation over time) that fuels a flywheel (multiplication through disciple-making).
1) Foundation: Follow Jesus
Every Aspire man commits to the basics of Christian obedience:
- Weekly discipleship and accountability
- Gospel journaling (MTSM Journals)
- Scripture memory
- Prayer rhythms
- Transparency, repentance, and integrity
This is not leadership training. This is following Jesus.
2) Formation: Shepherd Development
Over 18–24 months, Aspire men grow through Bible formation, theological formation, pastoral reading, and skill development.
Bible Formation
- Big picture of Scripture (Bible survey / storyline)
- Pastoral Epistles (1–2 Timothy, Titus) as the primary backbone
- Doctrine woven into real shepherding conversations
Theological Formation
- Doctrine of Scripture
- Doctrine of God
- Doctrine of Salvation
- Doctrine of the Church
- Sanctification, endurance, and suffering
Reading Formation
- The Pastor’s Soul
- The Pastor’s Family
- The Pastor’s Ministry
- The Character of Leadership
Pastoral Skills
- Starting and leading a discipling group
- Handling Scripture faithfully (study → meaning → application)
- Preaching formation inside Aspire (not performance training)
- Counseling basics and boundaries
- Shepherding in life’s sacred moments (ordinances, weddings, funerals)
3) Practice: Demonstrated Faithfulness
Aspire men are not merely taught. They are observed in real ministry contexts:
- Leading discipling groups
- Teaching within Aspire
- Caring for people (presence, listening, prayer)
- Serving in the life of the church
- Handling Scripture with humility and clarity
Leadership is proven through service, not ambition.
4) Discernment: Clarity
Aspire concludes not when time has passed, but when clarity has come.
Discernment considers:
- The man’s calling and character
- Pastoral observation
- Deacon affirmation (as witnesses, not gatekeepers)
- Marital health and unity (wife’s voice honored)
- Evidence of disciple-making fruit
A Deeper Look
How Aspire Differs from a Leadership Program
Aspire is not a classroom, credentialing process, or ministry ladder. Aspire is a greenhouse. It exists to protect marriages, guard spiritual health, test calling slowly, prevent premature leadership, and strengthen the church long-term.
We believe God raises up leaders in His timing, not ours.
The Aspire Flywheel
Aspire is a pathway that fuels multiplication:
- Gospel-formed men
- Lead discipling groups
- Identify faithful men
- Invite them into Aspire
- Repeat
This is 2 Timothy 2:2 in motion. Aspire exists for multiplication—not visibility.
Key Takeaways
- Aspire forms shepherds before speakers.
- Character outweighs gifting.
- Unity matters more than speed.
- Fruit matters more than ambition.
- Faithfulness is success.
Aspire does not produce titles. It produces faithful disciples who make disciples.
Aspire FAQs
Who can enter Aspire?
Aspire is for men who are faithfully following Jesus and sense that God may be calling them to deeper leadership or pastoral ministry. Aspire is not a promotion pathway—it is a season of discernment and formation.
How long does Aspire last?
Aspire typically lasts 18–24 months. However, the pace is governed by spiritual fruit and clarity—not a calendar. Formation cannot be rushed.
Does Aspire guarantee ministry placement?
No. Aspire is about discernment and formation, not securing a ministry role. Some men may pursue pastoral ministry, while others may discover a different form of faithful service.
How are wives involved?
A wife’s voice and well-being are deeply valued. Marital unity and health matter significantly in the discernment process. Aspire seeks to strengthen marriages, not strain them.
What role do deacons play?
Deacons may serve as observers and encouragers. They help affirm character, humility, and faithfulness over time, offering pastoral input as part of the discernment process.
